About Us

Vision for Chicago is a community-rooted nonprofit dedicated to removing untreated vision as a barrier to opportunity for justice-impacted adults. We bring high-quality, vision care directly into reentry programs, workforce development sites, and community organizations across Chicago’s South and West Sides.

We were founded on a simple belief: everyone deserves to see clearly—and to be seen—with dignity. For many returning residents, something as basic as a pair of glasses can determine whether they can read job applications, participate in training programs, navigate public transit, or reconnect with family. By meeting people where they are, we eliminate the transportation, insurance, and systemic barriers that often prevent access to care.

Our team provides on-site vision screenings, comprehensive eye exams, prescription glasses, and follow up support. Every service is delivered with a trauma-informed approach that prioritizes comfort, autonomy, and trust. By embedding care directly within partner organizations, we ensure that vision services are accessible, predictable, and integrated into the broader work of reentry and healing.

Beyond clinical care, Vision for Chicago is committed to strengthening Chicago’s optical ecosystem. We are developing workforce pathways that create real employment opportunities for returning residents in the optical industry—expanding access not only to care, but to careers.

At Vision for Chicago, clear vision is more than a medical service. It is a pathway to stability, confidence, and possibility. We are honored to walk alongside individuals rebuilding their lives and the community partners who support them.
