A Critical Gap Filler in Chicago’s Reentry EcosystemVision for Chicago was created to meet a need that had gone unmet for far too long. As the only organization in Chicago providing vision care at scale with a dedicated focus on the reentry community, we step into a long‑standing gap in the city’s service landscape. Our work strengthens workforce outcomes, supports successful reentry, and helps justice‑impacted adults build the long‑term stability they deserve.
Every day, we meet people who are working hard to rebuild their lives. Vision for Chicago delivers high‑quality, no‑cost vision care directly to justice‑impacted adults across Chicago’s West and South Sides. By embedding our clinical services within reentry and workforce programs, we remove a barrier that often goes unnoticed but has a profound impact on someone’s ability to move forward: the ability to see clearly.
We’re proud to partner with organizations deeply rooted in their communities, including Safer Foundation, Teamwork Englewood, the Women’s Justice Institute, North Lawndale Employment Network, Saint Leonard’s Ministries, and TASC.
Our model is simple: meet people where they are, and make vision care easy to access. Vision for Chicago provides on‑site, no‑cost eye exams and prescription glasses to adults enrolled in reentry and workforce development programs across Chicago’s West and South Sides. The programming is designed to remove untreated vision issues as a barrier to: Workforce participation, Job training and certification, Reentry stability, and Long-term economic mobility. Our programming is community‑embedded and built in partnership with reentry organizations, violence‑prevention groups, and workforce training providers—ensuring that vision care becomes a natural part of someone’s journey toward stability, confidence, and opportunity.
